They are lightly dressed and their hair falls free of ponytail holders. They are very quiet as they walk. Suddenly one whispers, "A-ha! We're approaching the prey! There, in that grove." He commands his companions with waves of his hand. "You, to the right. You, to the left. You, behind it. Quickly, quickly." |

The leader of the hunting party waits unmoving. His eyes scan for the prey. The other hunters grow excited as they move into position. "Patience..., not yet..." whispers the leader. Now the other hunters have completely surrounded the grove of trees. "Not yet, not yet," he whispers again. Suddenly the leader raises his arm and shouts to the others "Let's go! Rush the prey!" |

The chemvakh's sharp teeth glint, and its claws tear up the ground. When it spots the leader of the hunting party, the fierce chemvakh charges straight at him. The unmoving leader stands alone. He raises his hunting spear and adjusts his stance. The chemvakh growls and leaps at him. The leader is like a strong column as he grasps his spear. He is very calm as he awaits the attacking chemvakh. He wears a slight smile. |

"Victory," shouts the leader. |

They use their knives to begin cutting into the body of the still-living chemvakh. It cries out once, twice, and then it falls silent and its life departs. The hunters begin to eat the meat: lungs, heart, haunches. They all laugh uproariously. Their hands and bodies are smeared with the blood of the chemvakh. The leader lifts his face to the sky and howls. He bites into a bleeding lung, tears off a piece and chews. |

Chorax and his caller continue to talk together. "What...? Why...? Are you certain? Hmmm... OK, I understand. I'll leave at once." Chorax punches the communicator's switch, and the screen goes dark. Chorax moves quickly through the grain stalks. The crew opens the door and Chorax enters the flyer. Soon the door is secured, the crew has powered up the engines, and the flyer lifts into the air. Quickly the flyer becomes a small black dot high in the sky. The servants gather up the hunting gear and the meat. They depart in jitneys. The sun continues to rise in the sky. The air grows warmer. The field and the grove are silent. Only the chemvakh's blood remains on the ground. |
